Pregnancy
Just after a woman is confirmed
pregnant, she gets very curious about the due date. This is the first question everyone asks to an expecting mother. Pregnancy calculators estimate your baby's due date.
Pregnancy calculators are also know as due date calculator as they give an estimated due date or estimated delivery date (EDD) of your baby.
Always remember, the
pregnancy calculator only gives you an estimated due date and should always meet your medical practitioner regarding any further information.
It has been observed that only 5% of pregnant mothers deliver a baby exactly on the due date calculated by the
pregnancy calculator. Therefore there will be a margin of error for few weeks/days on either side of the due date for remaining 95% women.
Its always fascinating how these
pregnancy calculators works and determines the magical date. But more than any magic its sheer mathematics based on some scientific facts.
This is how it works. Your due date is an estimated date, based on 40 weeks from the date of your last menstrual period (LMP), since women commonly give birth between weeks 38 and 42.
The 280 day cycle works on the typical 266 day gestation period plus 14 days, which would be the time from when you had your first day of period, until the time when you would have more than likely ovulated.
Based on the above statement, you can say its not exact science. This method of
pregnancy calculation assumes you would have ovulated exactly 14 days after your period started and the fertilization also took place on the exact date.
There are few other methods also that are used for
pregnancy calculation. But the one mentioned above is widely accepted by the medical practitioners throughout the world.
The more you know about your monthly cycle, the more accurate due date will be generated by the
pregnancy calculator. We agree that all the pregnancies are not planned, but if your periods are more regular, than using a pregnancy calculator will be no problem.
But we would love to remind you once again that a
pregnancy calculator will only generate an estimated due date (EDD). If you think you are pregnant or you are tested for positive pregnancy always consult your medical practitioners.
Pregnancy calculators are meant to help you in calculating your estimated due date, fetal age as well as the conception date. Pregnancy calculator used with pregnancy calendars are a great tool for proper prenatal care of your baby.
