Pregnancy
A pregnancy test is done to confirm the pregnancy of a woman. There are different methods of determining whether a woman is pregnant or not but all these methods of pregnancy test look for a hormone either in urine or blood.
In medical terms, this hormone is known as Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (hCG) which is made in your body after the implantation of a fertilized egg in the uterus, this hormone is released by trophoblastic tissue in the placenta. A pregnancy can be confirmed by blood
pregnancy test, urine pregnancy test and pelvic exam.
Urine pregnancy test
This test can be easily done by the expecting mother in their own home. Home
pregnancy kits are available in market meant for this urine pregnancy test. This pregnancy test is based on detecting hCG in the urine of the woman to confirm conception.
These tests are very short and simple and generally last for few minutes. This test is generally performed after one week you missed your period.
Few drops of urine on the test strip are enough for the
pregnancy test. If the urine changes its color, it indicated a positive pregnancy test. These test claims to be accurate up to 99 percent, however occasionally a false positive result can be shown by these test strips. A false positive pregnancy result is generally caused by intake of fertility drugs or few other kinds of medication.
Blood pregnancy test
This type of
pregnancy test is little expensive but one of the most reliable methods of confirming the conception. This test also searches for the presence of hCG in the blood of expecting mother. A blood sample is taken and the test result usually takes 1-2 hours. Through this method of pregnancy test one can determine the pregnancy even before woman misses her period.
This test is generally done in the cases of tubal
pregnancy, one of the complicated cases of pregnancy. This pregnancy test cannot be done at homes for some hygienic reasons and people also can't afford the expensive instruments used for this test at their homes.
Pelvic exam
If you are not satisfied with your negative urine
pregnancy test, you can consult you medical practitioners or gynecologist. These tests are generally done by the doctors and they are completely based on physical tests.
The gyno inserts 2 fingers into the vagina alongside the cervix while other hand presses the lower abdomen and directs the pelvic organs towards the examining fingers.
The main purpose of pelvic exam in early
pregnancy is to assess the size of the uterus, tubes and ovaries. This pregnancy test is also considered as one of the most reliable sources of determining pregnancy.
